About Me

Hi.  I'm Jeff Nelson.  I'm an ordained pastor in the United Church of Christ.  Shortly after I began my first settled call, I began the blog that you're reading.

I was born in Michigan, just outside Detroit.  I grew up as a PK ("pastor's kid" for the uninitiated), and that familial lifestyle eventually landed us in northeast Ohio, which I have called home for nearly 30 years.  However, as you'll occasionally see on the blog, I've remained loyal to Detroit and University of Michigan sports teams.

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Heidelberg University (it was College when I graduated) and a Masters of Divinity from Eden Theological Seminary.  I recently completed a program at the Ignatian Spirituality Institute at John Carroll University to be certified as a spiritual director, the ceremony for which will be held in late August 2014.

I'm a pop culture nut, be it music, movies, or books.  I play guitar, bass, and drums and love a wide variety of musical styles.  I almost always have a book or two laying around that I'm reading, and I especially love theology and spirituality, history, memoir, and a good novel.

I've been married over a decade (to "Coffeewife") and have a son ("Coffeeson"). A second child ("Coffeedaughter") joined us this past September.

I love coffee.  I drink a lot of it.
